The first letter of the code identifes the month, the other letter(s) identify the year. Remington dates of manufacture Remington made use of a two or three letter Firearms Identification Code that can be located on the left side of the barrel, just ahead of the frame. On the right side are markings which look like a 'G' in kind of a triangle and what appears to be 'REP' inside an oval. Has markings of 'W M 3', 'U P L' and '58' on the left side. I have a letter from Larry Goodstal that says During November of 1968 the number system. Number 1 was presented to the Governor of Montana and Number 2 was presented to Senator Mike Mansfield. However there were only a total of 94,028 600s made and 50,536 660s made. Number 1 and 2 had Deluxe high finish wood. Remington records state that 600s started out at serial number 1000 and ended with 131,552. I have a Remington Model 600 in.222 caliber and am curious to the possible value. The 5 digit serial number is going to be anyones guess. Just installed the black anodized rib on my model 600 to replace the cracked plastic original. Number 1 and 2 had Deluxe high finish wood.
